Ireland has set long-term ambitions to reach 20GW of offshore renewable energy by 2040 and 37GW by 2050, eying “emerging export market opportunities.”
The targets were established as part of the government’s ‘Future Framework Policy Statement for Offshore Renewable Energy’, which also includes a roadmap on how those can be achieved. Both fixed bottom and floating turbines will be considered, as well as wave and tidal energy.
